The Stronghold Climbing Gym

THE STRONGHOLD ECHO PARK

At the end of 2023, about ten years after opening in Lincoln Heights, the Stronghold opened its second location in the heart of one of Los Angeles’ iconic neighborhoods: Echo Park.

Only 3.4 miles from Lincoln Heights, Echo Park was conceived as an extension of our bouldering walls. Members have access to both gyms which are, essentially, just down the road from one another.

Looking to rope climb? Lincoln Heights is just a stone throw away!

PAST & PRESENT

Past: The Globe #3 Movie Theater & La Guadalupana Market

The space began life in 1912 as Jensen’s Theatorium, a movie theater. It was later renamed the Globe #3 Movie Theater, and would go through a number of name changes: Sunset Theatre, Hollyway Theatre, and finally Holly Theatre. In 1951, the theater was closed, and replaced with a branch of Citizen’s Bank, which remained for more than 30 years.

The bank was converted to La Guadalupana Market in the late 1980s.  This iconic mural of Our Lady of Guadalupe that was painted on the back of the building by local artist David Monpiel dates to this era.  La Guadalupana Market closed in 2018, and the building was vacant until The Stronghold arrived.

On our block alone, you will find Kwon’s Gifts and T-Shirts, Little Fish Echo Park, Dada Market, El Clasico Tattoo, Marriage Skate Shop, Il Saggio Italian Restaurant, DJ Star Nails, and more. Directly behind the building you will find the Echo Park Farmer’s Market operating each Friday afternoon. Beautiful Echo Park Lake is just a short walk away.
